Turning Weaknesses Into Strengths

We all have weaknesses - we all have our strengths too. Wouldn't it be wonderful if our weaknesses could become our strengths?

In the new book, Wake Up?Live the Life You Love, Seizing Your Success, which I have co-authored, I share how adversity in our lives often leads to our successes. Were it not for the many health problems I experienced as a young mother, I would have never turned to good healthy foods and seen a turn around in my health. Were it not for that experience, I would not have come to know what I know and be able to share that knowledge with others. My challenge was really a blessing to me.

I use to have a saying when I was young which went something like this: "I feel sorry for those who try to quit smoking, for if I was ever told to never eat sugar again, I could never do it." Yet that is exactly what I did - gave up refined sugar for life!

I first learned how addicting it was to me and how it was literally destroying my health. I knew myself well enough to know that I had no self-control with "some", but that the fence had to be drawn at "none". Thus, one of my biggest weaknesses has become one of my greatest strengths.

Now, stop and think of a weakness you have - one that you would like to overcome. It may be a bad eating habit (stopping at the convenience stores, unhealthy snacks, overeating) or a need for exercise, water, etc. Envision that weakness becoming your greatest strength. Write down the steps that would help you overcome that weakness and make it your strength. Are you strong enough to succeed? Of course you know you are strong enough to succeed, but are you willing to make the effort to do it?

Remember, challenges are what make us strong - they come in our lives to help us learn who we really are, and mold us into who we are to become. So take on the challenge to turn a weakness into a strength! You can do it!

Food for Thought: New Foods in 1492
The Indian tribes of the New World knew and used many foods that were all unknown to the white man before 1492. Here is a list of those foods which you may find quite interesting?

  • turkey, corn, sweet potato, squash, duck, peanuts, maple sugar or syrup
  • strawberry, pineapple, tapioca, tomato, cranberry, pumpkin, white potato
  • beans (some varieties), pecans, cashews, cacao (chocolate), avocado
  • chili pepper, vanilla, popcorn

That's why in America we celebrate many of these foods in our traditional Thanksgiving Day dinners. We often seem to forget the popcorn though!

We are blessed with so many wonderful foods as well as all the gifts of life. What a blessing to have a day set aside to truly give our heartfelt thanks to God! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and dinner!
